Competa techtalk: REST in practice

On may 3rd I will be doing a Competa Techtalk on REST. As for those who have ever dealt with writing a RESTful API: it isn’t as easy it it sounds and falling back to a XML-RPC (or worse) API is the result. During this talk I will not explain REST but will teach you how to deal with the practical side of implementing a RESTful API. How do we let someone login? How do we search through collections? How do we do asynchronous operations and how do we send emails from your API? Ultimately, it should allow you to think about problems facing everyday and turn them into truly RESTful solutions.

Entrance to this event is free. More information can be found at: http://www.competa.com/community/events.php/29

Speaking at PHP|Tek in Chicago

Tek12_312x142-300x136

I’m invited to speak on the PHP|Tek conference in Chicago USA on may 22 to may 25. I will be speaking about 3 different topics:

  • Public key encryption 101: the basics of public key encryption. What is is, why is it important and how does it work.
  • Puppet for dummies: An introduction into Puppet configuration management.
  • The Standard PHP Library: a set of standardized components for usage in PHP.

I’m very keen on going back to the states since my visit last October. PHP|Tek is one of the best conferences available for PHP developers, so I’m really happy to be part of it. Especially with three of my favorite subjects to talk about. And maybe, there just might be a surprise as well.. :-)

Introducing the Techademy

mortar board & diploma on white

Since last week, me and my good friend Stefan Koopmanschap from ingewikkeld.net, joined forces to come up with our new project called Techademy! This new project is all about teaching about the simple (and sometimes not so simple) things concerning anything related to software development. During a day, you will receive 2 different workshops about a certain aspect by either Stefan, me or one of the many guest-trainers we have lined up.

The Techademy workshops are indented for everyone willing to learn more about software development and because of the (very) low pricing, it’s available for everybody! Take a look at our Techademy website (dutch only) for more information.
